“When I walk into a house for the first time, it tells me a story about the family that once lived there. I want to revive the house and give it another life to make it home for a new family to create new stories.”
Stacy C., Project Manager
The first time you walk into an REO home is like opening a surprise gift – either it’s a complete disaster or something that gets you excited for the project ahead. Both are fun challenges, but the property at Starwood was the latter and everything project manager Stacy was hoping for. “When I first walked into the house it was very dirty and very lived-in. Yet the bones of the house were in great shape and I could already visualize the transformation.”
The Starwood property was typical of the area and beautiful on the outside. Stepping in was a different story: one of neglect. The lack of maintenance meant rugs were stained, cabinets and doors were dented and off the hinges, old fixtures didn’t work, there were wall nicks galore and much more. According to Stacy, “There were no major challenges but I knew that there would be a lot of hands on deck for the renovation, so it was just a matter of keeping everybody focused and on track.”
To make sure that happened, she brought on trustworthy vendors that she had known and worked with for years, well aware of their high quality work and their drive to get the job done right.
The vendors were also excited about coming on board to work with Stacy and Ameritrust Residential, knowing full well about the scope of work, timeline and expectations.
Stacy believes that the key to a successful renovation is having the right vision. “When I walk into a house for the first time, it tells me a story about the family that once lived there. I want to revive the house and give it another life to make it home for a new family to create new stories.” And that’s exactly what she did.
With vendors lined up and the scope signed off, the rehab started and vendors quickly ripped out carpet, removed old cabinetry and opened up areas to fix broken plumbing pipes. With little to no issues along the way, the rehab project ended on time and in scope within just 42 days.
The end result was a beauty, including a totally revamped kitchen that acted as the focal point in the house, with great views and natural lighting casting a glow on the new white cabinetry. “The master bath also exceeded my expectations when it was completed with the new shower and custom shower doors”, Stacy reflected.
As every project manager knows, for any renovation to be successful you have to get the small things right whether it’s addressing issues at the time of estimating or showing up on time every day. And with Starwood, those concepts were certainly applied.

Overall Stacy was very proud of the work ethic and quality her contractors put into the house. “I always know it’s a great transformation when you walk in the home and go ‘wow’!”
Even with the property renovated during the late fall months, the property was listed and leased within 2 months (right in the heart of a Midwest winter). And just as Stacy imagined, a new family is now creating new stories in the home she helped to renovate!
